Opportunities

• MTA Bargaining Certificate
  An opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge of beginner negotiators, while deepening and broadening the proficiency of seasoned negotiators in advanced bargaining issues.
• Next Generation Leadership Program
  The MTA Next Generation Leadership Program provides participants with the skills needed to become an effective union leader at the local, state, and national level.
• Teacher Leadership Institute
  The National Education Association and the Center for Teaching Quality,  along with the Massachusetts Teachers Association, are partners in the Teacher Leadership  Institute. This joint endeavor aims at developing a new generation of leaders within the teaching profession.
• National Race Amity Conference
  The National Race Amity Conference offers participants positive, focused opportunities for intimate discussion circles, interactive panels, and informative sessions on a variety of topics central to the main theme of race amity.
• Union Leadership & Activism for Educators Program at UMass Amherst
  MTA members can apply for a partial scholarship, funded through the MTA Public Relations/Organizing Campaign, to participate in the Union Leadership and Activism Program.

Grants

• The Massachusetts Child
  The Massachusetts Child, the MTA’s charity, is a reimbursement program available to all MTA preK-12 local associations. Members use funds to purchase qualifying items for students, and Mass Child reimburses the local associations.
• NEA Foundation Grants for Educators
  The NEA Foundation offers grants to promote high-quality professional development experiences and improve the academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher education institutions in any subject area(s). Awards

• Educator Recognition Programs
  A list of educator recognition programs, included Massachusetts Teacher of the Year, compiled by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• MTA Human and Civil Rights Awards
  The MTA Human Relations Committee each year honors MTA members and others who have made substantial contributions in support of human and civil rights.
• Honor Our Own Award
  The MTA Retired Members Committee each year honors an active or retired MTA member or members for their outstanding influence on students, beginning educators and association members. All of the honorees were nominated by fellow educators.
• ESP of the Year
  The MTA Education Support Professionals Committee honors an outstanding ESP each year at the MTA Annual ESP Conference. Awardees are recognized for their outstanding contribution to their schools, communities and profession.
